On September 24th, the Kia Optima Sportswagon will be launched at dealerships and with it the entry of the Koreans into the segment of mid-range station wagons. A field that is determined in Germany by VW Passat and Skoda Superb, not least Renault, was also able to score here with the Talisman. Even if the SUV segments continue to grow and everything else is shrinking, the station wagon remains (still) an issue in Germany. The starting price for the Kia Optima SW is 25,990 euros.
Extensive standard equipment Edition 7
With a length of 4.86 meters, the station wagon is exactly as long as the sedan. With 552 to 1,686 liters of trunk volume, it offers significantly more space. The basic version called Edition 7 already offers map navigation, a reversing camera, air conditioning, as well as an audio system and folding exterior mirrors. There is also an “active matrix display” and cruise control. All this for 25,990 euros, the Kia Optima sports car is powered by a 163 hp 2.0-liter petrol engine without turbocharging.
Optional special equipment is impressive
The front seats are optionally electrically adjustable in 8 positions and can be equipped with seat heating and ventilation (rear only seat heating). Depending on the equipment, certain extras are already available. Edition 7 is followed by Vision, Spirit, GT Line and the top version GT. Extras include LED headlights, a panoramic camera, partially autonomous parking, a better sound system, DAB +, an inductive charging cradle for smartphones and a panoramic glass roof. In addition to 2-zone automatic air conditioning, keyless starting is also optional, as is a portable luggage compartment light.
Adaptive chassis and large turbo gasoline engine in GT version
The GT Line equipment does not really differ optically from the top GT version. In addition to the sporty lines on the front and rear aprons, there are also a few sporty details in the cockpit. The top version GT has a 2.0 liter T-GDI engine with 245 HP (350 Nm) power. This means that the Kia Optima Sportswagon can go around 230 km / h, accelerate to 100 km / h in 7.6 seconds and consume only 8.2 l / 100 km. With additional power, Kia has also given the top model a larger brake system with red-painted brake calipers and a specially tuned GT chassis. Unfortunately, this drive is only available with the six-speed automatic transmission.
Two petrol and one diesel engine in the Kia Optima Sportswagon
In addition to the two petrol engines, Kia also offers a 1.7-liter turbo diesel with 141 hp for the Optima SW. That runs at least 200 km / h and should get along with 4.4 l / 100 km according to the factory. The 1.7 CRDi can also be equipped with the 7-speed dual clutch transmission.
7 airbags are standard on board as safety systems, as well as counter-steering support, hill start assist and a tire pressure monitoring system. Lane keeping assistant, cross traffic warning system, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control and an autonomous emergency braking assistant with pedestrian recognition are available as optional extras.
The prices for the 2.0-liter T-GDI and the 1.7 CRDi have not yet been determined. The 2.0 CVVL engine with 163 hp costs 28,690 euros in the Vision version and 32,790 euros in the Spirit version.
