The Lexus RX is now getting on in years. Reason enough to present it in new splendor at the New York International Auto Show. Significant changes to the Lexus RX are primarily of an optical nature as well as small updates to the hybrid drive of the Lexus RX 450h sold in this country.
So far, the Lexus RX has been the brand’s top seller with 2.1 million units sold for 26 years. Overall, the SUV accounts for a third of Lexus’ total sales. Lexus claims to have completely redesigned the RX, we have to accept that because we can’t look under its skirt. Only the Lexus RX 450h is offered in Germany (there is also a non-hybrid version in the USA), which in turn has received small updates on the 3.5-liter Atkinson V6. However, the system output of 300 hp has not changed.
But he has grown in every imaginable direction and not too close. In length it is now 120 mm more (4,890 mm), in height the increase is only minimal with 5 mm (1,690 mm). Instead, it also increases by 10 mm in width (1,895 mm). Much more important, however, is the extended wheelbase by 49 mm to 2,790 mm. In addition to the delicate growth spurt, there are the L-shaped LED headlights on the front, which set the tone day and night.
The 20 inch rims can be ordered with colored inserts, at the rear the taillights light up “around the rear”. The big change took place in the interior. The look of the 90s has come to an end and the current Lexus design has arrived. These materials no longer seem grandiose, primarily a larger Lexus NX. This is where the head-up display and the central 12.3-inch touchscreen come from. Optionally, the Lexus RX can now be equipped with “wood applications”. There is a novelty in the rear, because there the passengers can electrically adjust the seats and also heat them.
The redesigned MacPherson front axle and double wishbone rear axle are also optionally available with the adaptive damper system (AVS) for active driving performance. In addition to passive safety equipment, which can reduce the extent of a collision in an emergency, there is also an all-round view (Panoramic View Monitor) and the blind spot monitor (Blind Spot Monitor) available, but these two are only available at an additional cost.
In addition to the sporty details in the interior, the F Sport has the AVS on board as standard, as well as active stabilizers, which should improve the driving behavior (roll tendency, etc.).
